Our project will provide a safe accessible inclusive space for outdoor recreation combating the effects of isolation during the pandemic. The Town of Irmo and Friarsgate Skatepark Committee have partnered to build a community skatepark for all athletes, adaptive athletes, first-time athletes, and curious locals wanting to try. Children who participate in outdoor activity have stronger mental health, fewer behavioral problems, better cognitive function, and learn self-discipline.

This park will increase property values by 5% to 17% in the local neighborhood. By renovating this green space, our community will attract homebuyers that desire access to recreation to maintain a healthy lifestyle. Homes in a desirable area with accessible inclusive outdoor recreation attract a more stable workforce for businesses and vested people in the community.

Our skatepark project will be located in the Friarsgate neighborhood. The skatepark will be a concrete cast-in-place built by a reputable design-build company. The project is 10,000 for the skatepark. It will be on a property that is a total of 9 acres. The Town of Irmo is paying for the infrastructure of the entire park. This will include sidewalks, drainage, lighting, parking lot, bathrooms, and upkeep. This park will be accessible to over 3,000 children in the neighborhood. Most of these children are low-income and receive meal assistance at school. This skatepark will provide our community with outdoor recreation that is accessible for free to everyone including physically disabled/ adaptive athletes. This park will increase property values, increase revenue for local businesses, attract tourism, and improve the overall health of the community.
