Barry A. Walker Sr.

Mayor Walker was elected as Mayor in 2019 but has served on the Irmo Town Council since 2004. His current term will expire in 2023.

The Town of Irmo is located in the midlands of South Carolina and was founded in 1890. Over the last 130 years, the town has grown from a small railroad stop to over 13,000 citizens today. We are the gateway to Lake Murray and a suburb of Columbia, SC our state capitol. We have a progressive, vibrant and diverse community with the public school system that is one of the best in the state. If you are looking for a community with a great quality of life, we are it. Our public school system has programs and studies to prepare your children for college or technical school. We have over 25 acres of public parks and numerous walking trails that allow us to stay fit and enjoy nature. As you travel around Town, you will notice a number of beautiful landscaped public green spaces. These areas were created and continue to be maintained due to relationships between the public and private sectors. We have earned the National Arbor day designation as “Tree City USA”. As the Mayor, I encourage the citizens to gather for numerous town events that allow us to meet each other and share a meal and/or a beverage. When you come to The Town of Irmo, I encourage you to stop by Town Hall and meet our staff and while you are here please enjoy a meal at any of our local restaurants.

We are IRMO strong! I hope you enjoy your visit to our Town.

Mayor Barry A. Walker, Sr.
