Mr. Dennis began his career with the Town of Irmo in 2001 with the Irmo Police Department as a Reserve Police Officer.  In 2002, Mr. Dennis was hired as a full time Patrol Officer and served in several roles within the police department including K9 Officer, Field Training Officer, Evidence Custodian, Patrol Corporal, Patrol Sergeant, Investigations’ Sergeant, and Assistant Chief.

In 2020, Mr. Dennis was appointed as the Town’s 32nd Chief of Police and led the Irmo Police Department’s 33 officers and civilian employees.

During his tenure as Chief of Police, Mr. Dennis enhanced the departments professional image and the services it provides to the Irmo Community.  Mr. Dennis coined the departments core values of Integrity, Professionalism, and Dependability as a way to enhance the quality of life throughout the community knowing the Town of Irmo deserved nothing less.

Mr. Dennis spent his career with the Town as a problem solver and advocate for progress and growth.  His commitment brought along strategies to increase recruitment, retention efforts and raise the moral of his staff through some of the most challenging times.

Mr. Dennis is the past President of the South Carolina Crime Stoppers Association State Council and past Vice-Chair of the Midlands Crime Stoppers Association.  Mr. Dennis is a graduate of the FBI’s Supervisor, Command, and Executive Leadership Institutes along with receiving Executive Training through the LECC/SCLEOA and has attended the Narcotics Commanders School.

Mr. Dennis has received several awards and honors to include the VFW Post 8738 Law Enforcement Winner, American Legion’s Nathan M. Wolfe Award of Excellence, FBI LEEDA Trilogy Award, and was named the Irmo Police Department’s Officer of the Year in 2004 and 2008.

In 2021, the Irmo Town Council voted unanimously to appoint Mr. Dennis as the Town Administrator.  Mr. Dennis is now responsible for the town staff and department heads and works directly for the Town Council.  

Mr. Dennis was raised in Irmo where he still resides with his wife and son.  

Mr. Dennis has an open-door policy and encourages the community to come and meet him and his team of employees who are committed to providing a quality professional service to the Town of Irmo.
