The Town of Irmo is in the process of forming a number of new committees to assist in identifying problem areas throughout the Town. This committee will be tasked with identifying roads in town that are need of repairs and reporting these areas to the staff for reporting to the appropriate agency that maintains the roadway. The Town has approximately 20 square miles of roadway and it is virtually impossible to identify all the areas with potholes, cracks, crumbling asphalt and broken concrete (various materials have been used to construct roads in the area).
The committee will be charged with pinpointing the affected area and providing GPS and/or address locations to assist the proper agencies with identification. The committee will also be responsible for compiling, and updating, a priority list, determined by the road condition (bad, very bad or “fix-your-front end” bad). Photographs and videos of the affected areas will greatly assist in getting our roads placed on the appropriate County of SCDOT maintenance schedule.
The committee will meet initially sometime in January 2020 to discuss known problem areas and develop procedures for data collection and reporting. Future meetings will be scheduled as needed with emphasis for keeping a priority list up to date.
If you are interested in serving on this committee please submit a Talent Book Application by following the attached link. Make sure you clearly specify the committee you would like to serve on (the Town will be forming several new citizen committees). Applications need to be received by the end of December, however you can submit at any time for any committee and/or Town Boards. You can also call Bob Brown at (803) 781-7050 to discuss the creation and goals of these committees.
